Stranded?

05/25/07

Reading thru the newest copy of Family Circle Magazine this month, I took interest in the following poll:

Items teens ages 13 to 17 would want if stranded on a desert island:

1. cell phone

2. iPod

3. food

4. computer

5. PlayStation Portable

6. book

7. radio

8. CD

9. laptop computer

10. mom

Okay, I’m just a bit perturbed…

Having witnessed firsthand the very special relationship between growing teens and food, I can understand how good old mom might come after that need. After all, how many times have I stood in awe while watching the ensuing stampede after the supper bell has rung? Of course, the fact that Ramen is the only food that my teens seem motivated to make could prove problematic…after all, how will they find a microwave on that deserted island?

Which brings me to the next point.

Cell phone, iPod, computer….electricity??? Signal??? I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that perhaps their island isn’t so secluded that they might be thinking of using the cell phone to call for help…but that’s stretching it.

Sigh…I know, they are kids. It’s a sign of the times, I suppose.

But still, I kinda hoped good old mom would come before electronics on that list.
