Bookworm

07/22/07

Once upon a time….before the emergence of the internet, cable television, and video games…there was a little girl who spent all of her free time with her nose planted firmly between the pages of books.

She read for hours on end…completely losing herself within the characters and storylines. No book was too big or too small. A library card was her best friend…the key to a world that offered limitless opportunities for exploration. An average saturday would find her at the local library perusing the shelves and checking out the maximum quota of books allowed.

That little girl is now grown. Though her world has expanded beyond books now, she still reads. It is not unusual for her to have several books going at one time. They are still her friends….the ones that she runs to when the pressures of life begin to overwhelm her.

To her delight, the last installment of the Harry Potter series was marketed this weekend. It could not have happened at a better time. Like most parents, she originally bought the books for her kids; however, bookworm that she is, she could not resist reading them, as well. For the past two days, she has gleefully indulged in reading….happily absorbing every word and wishing that the story could go on forever.

Alas, it cannot. According to the author, this is to be the last book in the series. On the upside, my favorite characters have made it through to the end…but I want more.

I guess we all need an escape….and books are mine. So if you wonder where I’m at…just look for the one with her nose buried in a book.

  1. I’m not a fan of harry potter. It seems like everyone but me is! I prefer to watch the movies instead of reading the books. Really find it hard to concentrate sometimes on just reading a book while it’s quiet.
